What Advantages Does the IPad Have Over Netbooks?

What Advantages Does the IPad Have Over Netbooks?

Hdmi

The iPad comes with it's ups and downs. For some people it might be a better option than a netbook although they still have their advantages over the iPad as well. What are some things the iPad might be better for?

The iPad is much lighter than any other netbook on the market. It's designed is made in such a way that it's easy to carry around your house, put in a book bag, or hand to another person quickly and easily.

It comes on much faster than a netbook. If you need to quickly check something with only a few minutes of time, you can have completed your task on the iPad before most netbooks are booted and ready to go.

The iPad has the advantage that the screen can be horizontal or vertical. Even with the same sized screen, one can use their iPad to get the best viewing angle for that specific web page or application.

By default the iPad has an all day battery that is good for 10 hours. Many netbooks out of the box only have about 3 or 4 hours of battery life although this can be upgraded.

One can get a 3g connection data plan with the iPad meaning this device could be useful in most places where you travel with it. Some netbooks do have this feature but most of them do not.

Some netbook users will disagree because they use their netbook differently and make some good arguments because the iPad is lacking in many areas. But there are some significant advantages for those who want a simple, easy internet and media device.

Generic HDMI Cables Are Bad and Branded Cables Are Best - Get A Pinch Of Salt Here

Generic HDMI Cables Are Bad and Branded Cables Are Best - Get A Pinch Of Salt Here

Hdmi

If you thought purchasing HDMI devices was tough, just wait until you are forced to buy a replacement HDMI cable or a DVI to HDMI adapter for your computer or television. Fancy sounding technical names offered by different brands and manufacturers of HDMI cables can leave you thoroughly confused. Will using a cheap HDMI cable affect video quality? Will it affect the life of the HD device? What is the standard length? What if I want a longer cable? Can I just buy any HDMI cable or should I go in for the a specific brand?

Replacing HDMI Cables - Let The Troubles Begin

Most individuals use the cable and adapter that is packed into the box of the HD devices. This is the path of least resistance and one just has to focus on the device and ignore accessories like cables and adapters. This approach works fine until you are forced to buy a replacement cable.

These cables are built to last and can withstand a lot of damage. However, cables go bad and may render the HD device useless unless you go in for a replacement. People presume that Canon will manufacture HDMI cables just because they make HD cameras. That is like saying that GM will manufacture upholstery just because it makes cars. Makers of HD devices have tie ups with specific manufacturers for cables and adapters. The cost of accessories is included in the cost of the product and replacement cables, if needed, are your headache.

The Service Center Is Not Your Best Friend

Of course, the friendly guy at the service center will be more than eager to sell you a HDMI cable as a replacement. He will probably smirk when you request a longer cable and tell you that going in for a non-standard length is not advisable. Your feet start quivering the moment you hear the word non-standard and you quickly go about changing your interior design just to ensure the standard length HDMI cable suits your purpose.

HMDI Cable Myths Busted

Here are some facts about HDMI cables and accessories that you need to know before proceeding any further.

- You can buy cables that are 15 feet long. It will not impact quality negatively. Those who use HDMI for professional and commercial purposes do not complain of lack of quality when using longer cables. You certainly should not face problems when you probably want to bore your friends to death with your HD vacation videos.

- Brand matters when you are buying HDMI devices. Brands do not matter when you are buying cables. Still not convinced? You are free to buy branded and expensive cables. Cost, quality, longevity - there is very little you will gain by paying five times the standard price for branded HDMI accessories.

- You do not have to be a rocket scientist to buy good HDMI cables. The fancy terms are just jargon and you need not fear them once you understand what the terms mean.

- If you are not satisfied with quality after using a generic cable, perhaps you need to look at shielding. In some cases, generic cables may lead to poor quality but the wide cost difference means you can give them a try before choosing branded and high cost cables.

HDMI 1.3 Cable Price - Why the Vast Difference?

HDMI 1.3 Cable Price - Why the Vast Difference?

Hdmi

If you have recently looked into HDMI cable prices, you will have probably noticed the vast discrepancies in price between the many different cables available on the market at present. This has led many industry experts to ask if there is indeed a HDMI cable price rip off going on.

There is no doubt, because historically this has always been the case, that the retailers are taking advantage of a "new" technology and baffling consumers with science. I have seen two meter HDMI cables for sale at an incredible 0 (£78/€84), the same cable can be purchased on Amazon for less than (£55/€60) but what's this on the same site they have a DVI Gear 2 meter HQ 1080P 1.3b for a bargain .18 (£2/€2.30), that's over 7 (£75/€80) difference between two cables that do exactly the same job.

Now I am not saying that all HDMI cables are equal because that is not the case, but they all do one job equally well and that is to convey digital

signals uncompressed and unconverted so as to deliver the highest quality vision and audio. There will always remain the quality factor that needs to be taken into account. Some manufacturers continue to stand by their standards and use better materials, but for anyone to justify the difference above to me is fighting a losing battle.

The only way you will see a difference between a cheap HDMI cable and the more expensive ones will be if your connections are not secure or if you have a long cable run, HDMI cables are notoriously bad over longer lengths. You will see cables advertised with such outlandish sales promotion such as Standard Speed, Higher-Definition Experience, Advanced High Speed HDTV, Ultra-High Speed and - the best one - Ultimate High Speed. Forget promises of faster speeds or better performance from more expensive cables they are a rip off.

Steer clear of those 0 (/€72) HDMI cable prices and instead spend your hard earned on a category 2 grade cable that delivers data at a bandwidth of 10.2Gbps and support to 1440p making it somewhat future proof - the foreseeable future that is. This type of cable will make sure that more of your data is conveyed over long distances so as your 1080p HDTV will need to do less correcting the signal meaning a crisper, clearer picture and audio output. That will be money well spent and will run you no more than (£6.60/€7.20) for a 2 meter length.

Toshiba Camileo P30 videotest (HD)

Toshiba Camileo P30 videotest (HD) Video Clips.

I have a Canon XH A1 that I'm very pleased with. Unfortunately I think it's too big to carry around on trips and vacations to film friends and family. So I bought myself a very small camcorder that shoots in HD 1080p. I can take this camera with me everywhere! I can place it in my pocket (may be a bit big for some pants, but it will definitely be small enough for jackets). When you buy it you will also get: A very small tripod, a cleaning clout for the lens, HDMI cable, phonocables for TV-connection, battery, recharger and a small camera bag. So you get Toshiba Camileo P30 and all this for only 1600NOK (270$). I'm very pleased with this new camcorder! Hope you enjoy the short test, and thanks for subscribing! :)

Grandtec USB to HDMI Adapter

Grandtec USB to HDMI Adapter

Hdmi

You've probably seen a coworker or colleague using multiple LCD monitors at their computer workstation. Research at the University of Utah indicates that the use of multiple monitors can significantly improve worker productivity. It has been possible to integrate multiple monitors if the computer had DVI or HDMI outputs, but computers equipped with this functionality are still rare. Currently less than 2 percent of workstations are equipped with more than a single monitor. There is a need for a simpler solution.

A new USB-HDMI adapter module has been introduced in recently that might help. The Grandtec Electronic "Grand HD Cinema" (GHD-2000) adapts a USB port for use as an output for up to 6 monitors (4 for Mac). This is also an easy way to implement an HDTV adapter for a laptop computer. This module is about the size of an AC adapter power supply for a laptop computer. What makes this product different than its competitors is the integrated circuit chips and software drivers, the "Display Link" technology.

Display Link Technology

The critical chips used are made by a company called DisplayLink (formerly Newnham Technology, website: displaylink.com). The company is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, with research and product development in Cambridge, England. DisplayLink is a fabless operation, so the manufacturing of the integrated circuits is probably performed in Taiwan.

DisplayLink technology supports 32-bit color at all resolutions. Whenever native resolution can be detected, DisplayLink will display the native resolution of the screen automatically. The video output format is capable of high definition (720p), and audio functions for a single channel are also integrated. DisplayLink also provides much of the software for automatically configuring the video adapter and the USB port.

DisplayLink compresses the video signal for transport over the USB link to improve bandwidth. Video signals, especially HDTV signals, when uncompressed, require enormous bandwidth. If the original signal source is encoded video (see MPEG) then the computer must first decode the signal. Then the DisplayLink software driver must compress the signal using the proprietary DisplayLink video compression codec. This is basically transcoding, which is one of the reasons that the computer requirements are significant. The compressed signal is then sent over the USB link to the adapter.

Once the signal is past the USB link, the converter uncompresses the signal for broadcast over the HDMI link. HDMI is capable of communicating uncompressed HDTV signals.

There is some misleading information on-line that claims that this product is HDCP capable, which implies that the system is amongst other things, BluRay DVD compatible. Currently DisplayLink technology is not HDCP compliant, since DisplayLink's compression codec cannot manipulate encrypted packages.

Fast moving images may stress the capability of this technology because of the throughput limitations of USB 2.0.

Computer Requirements

The minimum computer requirements for this application are an XP or Vista operating system with a Pentium 4 CPU or equivalent at 2.4GHz. Minimum RAM memory requirement is 512 MB. The converter module relies on the computer CPU to perform the video encoding. The product is Plug and play with included software, and should install quickly.

Power for the converter is supplied from the USB port, so an AC power supply is not required.

Video Wall

It is possible to implement a "video wall" with up to 6 displays, but only a single audio channel can be used. Each screen's picture can be independently rotated in increments of 90 degrees.

The system supports extended desktop video (a single image split over multiple monitors) or mirror imaging (the same image displayed on multiple monitors). A separate USB-HDMI adapter module will be required for each monitor in extended desktop mode.

With multiple USB-HDMI adapters, each monitor can show separate programming. The limitation will be the computers ability to encode each channel because of the process is computation intensive.

Many people now use their computers to watch television and movies. There is a need to be able to easily view the computer's signal on a larger HDTV. The Grandtec Electronic Grand HD Cinema is well suited for this purpose. The Grand HD Cinema currently sells on-line for 0-0.

HDMI Versus DVI

HDMI Versus DVI

Hdmi

In order to make you understand what is better, HDMI or DVI, let's see first what they actually consist of. DVI comes from Digital Visual Interface and names the video connectivity standard that links your PC monitor or projector to the computer unit and, in addition, to High-Definition TVs, EDTVs and Plasma displays. It is used even by some DVD player models for providing high-quality imaging. DVI was the most advanced video transfer method before HDMI started to be available on the market, and features partial support for HDMI.

There are different DVI connections you've probably encountered in the specification lists of your home systems, starting with the DVI-Digital for linking video cards with LCD monitors for a high-quality image compared to analog. The DVI-Analog cables are used with analog displays like CRTs for connecting to VGA devices, while the DVI-Integrated brings both digital and analog support. The latter is the best, eliminating the need for VGA-to-DVI-D and DVI-D -to-VGA convertors.

I was telling you about the support for HDMI. Well, DVI-D and DVI-I come with Single-Link and Dual-Link connectors to send the Transition Minimized Differential Signaling data format, used also by HDMI. With dual link, the connection not only doubles the transmission power but also increases the signal quality, so if a DVI single link 60Hz LCD display renders 1920 x 1200 imaging, a DVI dual link reaches 2560 x 1600 resolution. Everything's fine, people used DVI for a long time and are all satisfied with it, but the problem is that the DVI connectivity doesn't support audio, just video transmission, and here comes the HDMI technology created to send high-quality 8-channel audio and high-definition video over a single cable.

What is HDMI actually? -The High-Definition Multimedia Interface transmits uncompressed digital signals and is the best solution available today to connect all high-end systems including Blu-ray players, computers and gaming consoles to PC monitors and High-Definition television panels, for a perfect image quality. Since 2002 when it was introduced, the HDMI standard has been improving after a few revisions, which lead at the HDMI 1.3b1 available today with sRGB color space standard, YCbCr RGB encoding, 8 channel LPCM/192 kHz/24-bit audio capability, Blu-ray Disc video and audio at full resolution, Consumer Electronic Control, DVD-Audio support, Super Audio CD support, Deep Color with very wide color gamut, xvYCC, Auto lip-sync, Dolby TrueHD bitstream capable, and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstream capable.

Depending on the materials used to build it, the 19-pin HDMI cable, which is much smaller than a DVI cable, can extend over 100 meters using fiber optic technology and extenders, or up to 15 meters when no booster or repeater is used, similar with DVI. There are 2 cable categories available. Category 1 is recommended for monitors and TV panels with this feature enabled, for 16:9 aspect ratio and 1920 x 1080 resolution of 2.07 million pixels. The HDMI Category 2 cable enables resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600 pixels at 16:10 aspect ratio on very large displays.

If you need to connect a DVI source to a TV display featuring HDMI connectivity you can do it easily after acquiring a DVI-to-HDMI cable with a DVI connector on one end and a HDMI connector on the other end. The price is acceptable, ranging between and 0 depending on the length, and this way you can get high-quality images but with no audio, so you'd still need to add an audio connector.

These are just brief things I said: EasyCap DC60+: Has an LED light to tell you when its connected. Very cheap however its standard definition so if you have a HD TV you might want invest into something that records in HD. But its not to bad quality as long as you have the right render settings and you can still use it with a HD TV but you need to change your xbox to SD I did use this and I kept having problems so you might want to try a. Dazzle DVC 100 from Pinnacle: Its another Standard definition capture but it is by far the most popular. It also has and LED light to tell you when its connected . It comes with a software called Pinnacle instant DVD recorder which is an easy program to use but for professional editing or rendering you should definitely get Sony Vegas pro 8, 9 or 10. Which is great for any editing or rendering.. Im not going to tell you how to get that program for free so don't ask. Next we have THE Hauppauge HD PVR which is the capture card I use now. It is fantastic, reliable and records in 480p 720p or 1080i. this is the most used one in the HD range. Requirements are: Dual core CPU processor minimum. Microsoft® Windows® 7 (32/64bit), Vista (32/64bit) or Windows XP Service Pack 3. Graphics with 256MB memory (or greater) And a Sound card This product also works for Mac.
